What is DTS-Si?
After a long time I felt like writing this blog. There is this nice patent war going on between two big automobile companies in India viz, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motors and the issue is about DTS-i technology. Bajaj claims the technology is theirs and they have patented it and used in their new bikes, while TVS motors are planning to file a suit against Bajaj.
While all these are happening in the background, Bajaj is all set to release its new bike "Exceed" 125cc which comes with an improvement over DTS-i called as DTS-Si and TVS is planning their new bike on similar technology lines again and they named it as "Flame" which is expected to get released in November. Ok, now what is DTS-Si? What is so special in this?
DTS-Si is the next step over DTS-i. DTS-i stands for "Digital Twin Spark - Ignition" and DTS-Si is called "Digital Twin Spark - Swirl Induction". Both these technologies will have two spark plugs, while it was just one spark plug in old bikes like my Splendor. But the factor of "Swirl Induction" is something new Bajaj is betting on. By "Swirl Induction", the combustion inside the cylinder is further improved by generating high turbulence for the fuel-air mixture. This factor is supposed to improve the mileage of the bike very much and Bajaj is quoting 109kmpl for its new bike "Exceed/XCD".
While battle between the companies go on, Bajaj is trying to get/generate new ideas/technologies and want to take 1st position in the two-wheeler which is currently occupied by Hero Honda. But TVS is also fighting for position 2, with its new bike "Flame" and current bike "Apache", but its a long way for TVS to beat both Bajaj and Hero Honda.
